More Sleeping Bees, Sungold season, S'mores cookies, and dancing
I’m having so much fun photographing the Sleeping Bees in my garden that I made a dedicated Sleeping Bees page on my website. Scroll to the the bottom of the All The Things page.
We had some cooler mornings this week and I spotted a few bees sleeping in before the sun broke through…
Shortly after I took the above shot the sun hit the bloom and I got to see him rouse, which looked very much like a stretching routine—the last step of which he used his back legs to fluff up his wings. I’ll be uploading more photos to The Sleeping Bees gallery in the coming days.
Other wonderful things are happening in my garden now too. My climbing zucchini is starting to really climb…
And the Sungold tomatoes are ripening! Every year I wonder if I will reach a threshold when I’ve consumed too many. And every year I discover that the threshold doesn’t seem to exist. I’ll keep trying though, for science.
I’ve been revisiting Mary Oliver’s poetry recently. I think it’s because of the way I’ve been feeling in my garden, looking closely. I love this passage about her:
“More than nature, her true subject—both Waters’s suggest—was awe. Oliver trafficked in deep feeling, and insisted on honoring life in every gesture. She measured a poem’s success by a three question metric: if a work served a spiritual purpose, had a sincere energy, and a genuine body, she felt she could stand behind it.”
I made Aran Goyoaga’s S’mores cookies this week. Aran has long been my gluten-free baking guru and these were incredible. I made her gluten-free graham crackers for them too.
I’m always looking for good sunscreen and I’m really digging Dune Suncare. I’m using The Melt Stick, and The Mug Guard and the The Bod Guard are both gel sunscreens that are easy to rub in and feel like nothing.

Enjoy the weekend. xxK
